Ivan C. Rand
Over the years, our firm has evolved under various names and through the contributions of many distinguished legal professionals. Among them was Ivan C. Rand, a partner in the early 1900s when the firm was known as Laidlaw, Blanchard, Rand & Delf. Rand later rose to national prominence as a Justice of the Supreme Court of Canada in 1943, where he established himself as one of the most influential legal minds in Canadian history.
James M. Pritchard, Q.C.
James M. Pritchard had a distinguished legal career of more than fifty years in Medicine Hat. Under James’s leadership and mentorship, many notable legal professionals emerged from our firm: Donald Medhurst and David Wilkins were appointed as Justices of the Court of Queen’s Bench of Alberta, while Frederick (Ted) Fisher became a Judge of The Provincial Court of Alberta. Beyond his legal practice, James contributed significantly to the legal profession in Alberta, serving as a Bencher of the Law Society of Alberta. James was also honoured with the designation of Queen’s Counsel of Alberta, recognizing his exceptional merit and contributions to the legal profession.
Janis Pritchard
A visionary in family law, Janis Pritchard transformed how families experience separation and divorce. She helped shape the Parenting After Separation course used across Alberta, advanced Collaborative Law internationally as progressive alternative to litigation, and brought the New Ways for Families program to Medicine Hat. Janis’s leadership and advocacy earned her the John Haynes Memorial Award and the Alberta Centennial Medal, among many honours. Her legacy continues to guide our family law practice today.
Cathy Regier
Cathy Regier had a lengthy and successful career with our firm. She practiced primarily in collaborative family law and mediation, known for her calm, clear, and compassionate guidance. In 2023, Cathy’s dedication to justice was recognized with her appointment as a Justice of the Alberta Court of Justice — a proud moment for our firm and a testament to her outstanding career.
